Safety on wheels – Road Safety Camp

A pall of gloom descends on us every time we hear about a road accident out of the enormous number of yearly 1.2 million road tragic accidents globally. And we usually shed our tears off by either cursing our fate or cursing the drivers. We, as a human nature, tend to call our admirable drivers the epicentre of any road trauma! But Why?  Is it their illiteracy, lack of road safety discipline, unexplored road rules that makes us think so? Maybe, Maybe not! Irrespective of any reason, over the past few years tempowalas have been oppressed for their harsh and rash driving in the city. At UDAN, we address this mindset and train our members to follow city traffic rules religiously.

The Traffic Police branch of Jaipur celebrated the road safety week from 23-02-15 to 28-02-15. It was a collective event by citizens of several valuable designations to instill the road safety values.

On the 26-02-15, the day seemed pretty much usual with the regular routine of dawn-work-dusk. However, it turned out to be a little different for the people at Logisure. Mr Banwari Lal, the traffic education in-charge of Jaipur, headed a  Road Safety Camp for UDAN members, with the most-needed discussion on road safety management. About 50 drivers and helpers of Logisure have accustomed themselves to the company’s radical workshops, be it the thought-provoking literacy camp or the blood testing camp, the road safety workshop was one of the very first of its kind, that too in Jaipur.

The seminar commenced with describing Jaipur and Rajasthan in whole as a traffic-mayhem and chaos. The disastrous accidents and their causes were spoken and discussed about. This ever-heated topic of debate in India, was more effective at Logisure for the UDAN members by starting off with road safety videos. With the help of visual charts, UDAN drivers were quizzed on traffic symbols and signs which were hardly known to them prior and boosted them to learn it.

Mr Banwari Lal created a powerful impact throughout the session. He highlighted striking points with Patience, Time and Punctuality being a quality in which drivers must exercise. The UDAN drivers were told to be cautious especially on wet roads, pedestrian crossings and junctions and other road impediments. Driver distraction, inattention and a compulsory speed caution were the important driving safety concerns expressed in the seminar. The drivers of UDAN also found it mandatory to first qualify in driving and obtaining the proper commercial licences. Rash, negligent, drunken driving should be altogether avoided. With Mr Banwari Lal’s support along with the Jaipur traffic police department in collaboration with Logisure, it was an essential approach in sensitising in the UDAN drivers to be more prudential in driving.

Word-of-mouth is the most effective stratagem to deliver a crucial concern. And road safety campaigns are the first steps in bringing out an efficient traffic-network for our future smart cities.

Logisure is a start-up which has evolved to provide seamless flow of traffic in harmony with the urban fabric of the city. The road-safety campaign in Logisure ended with a generous oath taken by all the UDAN tempowalas. All-in-all it was a successful approach to drill in a disciplined, duty-minded and dignified life on road-safety to the people.
